THE secrets of South Tawton will be uncovered on Saturday, May 17 when the village holds its discovery day from 11am. A village trail has been produced, accompanied by an illustrated map of the village by local artist Mary Cole. There will be exhibitions from the archives of Church House and the local history group as well as reminiscences from residents past and present. There will also be the opportunity to view the progress which is being made with the refurbishment programme at the new scout hut. Guided tours of St Andrew's Church will be held at noon, 2pm and 4pm. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day both at Church House and the Seven Stars, when the new barbecue will be lit in the revamped courtyard. The Church House will host a concert of sea shanties and folk songs by Mariners Away during the evening. Tickets at £5 are available from David Youle on 01837 840418.
