Tavistock Ladies' Seconds 2
Okehampton Ladies Seconds 0
RETURNING for the second half of the hockey season following the Christmas break both teams showed some scrappy play and poor decision making.
Tavistock, despite dominating possession, didn't look like scoring as the match just turned into a midfield tussle.
Despite a solid performance from Claire Bruna in midfield the support play was not of a standard that Tavistock are more used to this season. Anna Balm made some good runs from the right hand side and along with Bruna put some good balls out to Gawman. Sue Gawman had many good runs down the pitch but just lacked someone to pass to when approaching the D.
The second half saw some slightly better hockey from both teams, with some good defending by Jenny Pollock and Bridget Passmore coupled with good keeping from Zoe Viggers kept Okehampton off the score sheet.
After a good drive up the pitch from Gawman and a shot at goal, an Okehampton player stopped the ball on the line with her feet resulting in a penalty flick being awarded. Julia Firth took the flick but got no accuracy, enabling the keeper to make a standard save.
It was from the next run of play that the home team opened the score line with Firth making up for her earlier miss with a shot forced past the keeper.
Okehampton were quick to counter on many occasions but Babs Horton and Martin were very quick to intercept and take the ball back into the visitors' half.
Evans had a solid game in defence, easily clearing balls back to Martin – who in turn passed to Gawman, again making a good run up the pitch, to pass back to Firth who scored her second.
Tavistock will take away some points for this match to build on for their league match against Mannamead this weekend.
