THE lumps and bumps developed through 700 years of history at Buckland Abbey will be shown to visitors as the site?s hidden past is revealed next week. Staff and visitors will be treated to events to mark National Archaeology Week, and stories from the past will also be dug up in an aim to get people of all generations interested in discovering the evidence of byegone ages. There will be an exhibition of photographs taken during an archaeological survey that took place in 1988 and younger visitors will be able to take part in a special children?s archaeology trail, running all week at no extra charge. Special events will also include an Archaeology Talk and Wander on July 16 at 2pm, when the abbey?s assistant house steward, Bryher Mason, will provide an insight into how the abbey and grounds have changed from the 13th century to the present day. The cost will be £6.30 including a cream tea, and booking is essential on 01822 853607. On Monday, July 17 Stuart Newcombe, a volunteer at the abbey, will be running a Discover Dowsing session from 10.30am to 1pm at no extra charge.
