SHOW visitors were able to meet the great Victorian engineer Isambard Kingdom Brunel himself The debate may be on at present whether to re-instate the railway line between Exeter-Okehampton-Tavistock-Plymouth but show visitors were able to 'meet the man' who made such a line possible in the first place. London based actor Martin Williamson dressed up in the role of perhaps this country's greatest ever engineer, Isambard Kingdom Brunel —the man who was the prime force responsible for much of the present day railway network in the South West. Martin, who was working to promote First Great Western at the show, said he has a great respect for the Victorian engineer he was portraying. 'I think Brunel was the greatest man of his time, not only for what he achieved as an engineer but I admire his vision and his willingness to take risks. He had so much energy and great attention to detail. There may have been other great British engineers but nobody like Brunel.' l Martin Williamson dressed as Isambard Kingdom Brunel spans a model of the great engineer's creation of the Royal Albert Bridge which links Devon and Cornwall at Saltash.
