DEVON County Youth Brass Band performed a St George’s Day concert as part of the Tavistock Festival at the Tavistock United Reformed Church.

The band (DCYBB) is the brainchild of musical director and conductor Peter Jones. It is a band of young people aged 11 to 24 of Grade 4 and above who come from all over Devon, including several from the Tavistock area.

The concert was a mixture of traditional and contemporary music and showcased some of the players’ other musical talents.

Among those in attendance were Tavistock mayor Cllr Sue Bailey, West Devon mayor and mayoress Cllr David Cloke and Jacqueline Cloke, chair of Devon County Council Cllr Christine Channon, head of Devon Music Services Ken Parr and television personality Angela Rippon.

DYCBB play all over Devon at events and concerts including the Devon County Show. They have also been involved with workshops with the world championship winners Cory Brass Band, the Royal Marines and Simon Dobson.

Peter is assisted by assistant conductor Chris Spreadbury and Mandy Shobrook. They are run by the Friends of DYCBB and rely on grants, fundraising and donations to exist.
