Okehampton Columbines Seconds 0 Paignton 5 COLUMBINES started strongly despite being a hockey player down. Accurate passing, strong marking and some determined tackling from Hannah Whiteley, Carol Taylor and Claire Smith enabled Okehampton to keep possession and push up the pitch. Chris Leithbridge and Grace Thorpe were able to make several close attempts on goal but were outnumbered by Paignton?s defensive players. Paignton broke through the Okehampton defence just before the end of the first half to score. The second half began well for Okehampton, with powerful hitting from Jane Hignet allowing Okehampton further opportunities but Paignton came back with stronger organisation in midfield. Right back Rachel Hammett challenged the opposition clearing the ball effectively. Goalie Sophie performed well making several excellent saves from powerfully hit short corners, which the backs then cleared from danger. In the final fifteen minutes Paignton broke through and scored four goals in quick succession. Okehampton seconds play Mannamead at home on Sunday.
