Tavistock 13 Sidmouth 28 TAVISTOCK?S eight league match unbeaten run came to an end on Saturday when they fell to Sidmouth, who with this victory clinched the Cornwall and Devon league title. Unfortunately for Tavistock this defeat means that the second promotion place is, in all probability, out of reach. They are now five points behind second placed Kingsbridge with only three league matches remaining, although Kingsbridge do have to travel to Tavistock for the second of those games. Tavistock made Sidmouth fight all the way for the victory and at the half time break were only one point adrift. Sidmouth took an early lead via a Dan Retter penalty but Tavistock bounced back with a try to take the lead. Centres Duncan Law and Mike Lyddon combined and the quickly recycled ball allowed Josh Sutton to chip the defence for wing Adam Bridgewater to run onto the ball for a try wide out on the left. Sidmouth came back with two penalty goals to one from Josh Sutton for Tavistock, which made the score 9-8 to Sidmouth at the break. Early in the second half Tavistock allowed Sidmouth to break out and score two tries. Tavistock did not give up and flanker Paul Greenhill grabbed a try after a lineout catch and drive. Sidmouth settled matters near the end when they scored a third try via Dan Trim. Retter converted two on the tries. Tavistock?s next league game is against Wellington at Sandy Park on Saturday. Kick off 2.30 pm.
