St Martin's 3
Hatherleigh 2
THE game was only 30 seconds old when a long clearance saw Jamie Halpin break clean through only to shoot wide. With the wind behind them the visitors enjoyed most of the possession but failed to score from several good opportunities.
St Martin's capitalised by scoring two goals against the run of play, the second on the stroke of half time.
The turning point came a few minutes into the second half when a St Martin's player was sent off. This spurred Hatherleigh on and within a few minutes they scrambled a goal back through Simon James.
The St Martin's goal lived a charmed life for the next 20 minutes or so but eventually the pressure told and a loose ball in the box was slammed into the roof of the net by Paul Endacott.
Both teams looked like they had settled for a draw but from a corner Hatherleigh failed to clear the ball in the sticky conditions and the home side grabbed a winner with virtually the last kick of the game.
This week Hatherleigh host Witheridge in the quarter-finals of the Premier League Cup.
