Carlsberg South Western League Liskeard 3 Tavistock 1 A GUARD of honour was formed by both sides for Tavistock's midfielder Steve Daly as he announced he was to retire after the game. He has had a long and illustrious career in local football with many honours for Tiverton Town in the Western League and St Blazey in the South Western League. The Lambs opened well with Glynn Hobbs threatening every time he received the ball but the home side came the nearest to scoring on 17 minutes when Brinton Nute's effort came back off the crossbar from an Arran Cusack free kick. Minutes later, Hobbs' cross found Shane Krac but his lob over the keeper went wide. Hobbs flashed one across the face of the goal before the home side went ahead after 30 minutes. A free kick was headed on for Jim Alexander to close in on goal, Andy Meeds saved his effort but the ball fell kindly for Matt Cusack unopposed in the area. Despite Meeds getting hands to his effort he could not prevent the ball flying high into the top of the net. Daly was hoping to finish on a high but his long range effort was held by Simon Zinn, and Meeds did well going backwards to tip an Alexander header over the bar before half-time. Arran Cusack was proving a thorn in the Lambs' side as his cross was met by Paul Baker in the first minute of the second half only to see his effort tipped over the bar by Meeds. It was Cusack again on the hour to provide the low cross that saw Baker's shot come back off the near post. Jamie Morrison-Hill managed to steer the ball over the line despite the attentions of defenders. Lee Harvey's effort went just over from yet another Cusack cross minutes later. But the Lambs thought they had got back into the game with 15 minutes remaining when Marc Conday ghosted in from deep to plant the ball firmly past Zinn. But a flag the referee did not see until the ball was in the net meant it was disallowed for offside. Five minutes later Liskeard put the game to bed with their third as Cusack rounded off a fine individual display to get his second goal of the game when he raced onto a through ball. The Lambs finally got on the scoresheet when Zinn failed to hold Daly's placed free kick for Conday to follow up for a consolation goal. Another disappointing day for the Lambs that sees them rooted in the lower half of the league table.
