COVERING more than 800 miles over 19 days will be the physical challenge that two West Devon cyclists will undertake in the name of charity this spring.
Dan Wiggins and Annie Jefferies, from Lamerton, will be cycling across the UK from John O'Groats to Land's End to raise money and awareness for their two chosen charities.
The idea came from Annie, who intended to do the cycle last year in aid of the Emily Jordan Foundation, but was injured and unable to pursue it. The charity was set up after the death of Annie's niece, to help individuals with moderate learning and physical disabilities to train for meaningful employment.
Dan's father Rob Wiggins, who will be part of the support team for the cyclists, said: 'Annie was going to do it last year for the memory of her niece but had a skiing accident and couldn't do it.
'Her nephew, who has a disability, did it instead.
'When she said she was going to do it this year, Dan said he thought it sounded like a good idea and said he'd do it with her.'
Dan's chosen charity is the Brain Tumour Research Campaign, which is a charity personal to him as he has a brain tumour, and wants to raise awareness and funding for research.
Friends and family members will be joining Annie and Dan for all or some of the ride.
Rob said: 'They have had a lot of support. There are even cousins from Holland and Ireland coming over to join in on various parts.
'I'll be on the support side of it.
'I have bought a caravan which I will drive to do lunches and bicycle repairs.'
Rob said the pair have raised a substantial amount already.
'Annie has raised more than £4,000 so far, and Dan has raised about £6,000.'
The cycle will take place on April 14 and the pair hope to raise more money by that time.
