HOUSEHOLDS across West Devon are being urged to sign up for a 'highly successful' insulation campaign — to avoid the cost of growing fuel bills. With energy bills set to rise further, Heat Devon is launching its 2007 campaign to provide free cavity wall, loft insulation and heating, for homes where government benefits are received. The campaign, managed by specialist environmental consultants Enact Energy and supported by local authorities across the country, is now calling on residents to get in touch to see if they are eligible for the insulation works. Those who are eligible will have cavity wall and loft insulation improvements made to their home, free of charge. Anna Rutherford of Enact Energy, said: 'In the past year nothing has gone up faster than energy costs, making it more expensive than ever for people in Devon to keep their homes warm. 'The Heat Devon 2007 campaign has been launched to give households in Devon, that receive government benefits, an opportunity to improve the levels of insulation in their homes, which will not only keep their house warmer but reduce heating bills at the same time. 'It is estimated that the growing cost of utility bills means that there are now an estimated 3.7-million homes across the UK that are classed as fuel poor, where more than 10 percent of the disposable income is spent on fuel.'
