THE West Devon and Torridge branch of the United Kingdom Independence Party has been awarded a prize for being the fastest-growing branch in the country.
Last year, membership of the branch increased by 150. For this achievement, the Torridge and West Devon Constituency Association has been awarded the Bill Craig Cup. It was donated to be presented to the association with the best membership recruitment each year.
The cup was presented to Dave Weeks, chairman of the West Devon and Torridge branch by UK Independence Party leader Roger Knapman.
Mr Weeks said he was delighted to accept the trophy on behalf of the committee. He said West Devon and Torridge had a dedicated team of workers who had been motivated by seeing new blood joining the committee.
Mr Weeks said such an increase in membership bucked the trend midway between elections, and in the first two months of this year more new members had been joining.
He concluded by saying other associations would have to work hard to take the cup away from the West Devon and Torridge branch.
