AN ANCIENT Dartmoor cross has been restored as part of the Dartmoor National Park 50th anniversary celebrations

Shaden Moor Cross, once known as Shaden Brake Cross, has received a new shaft more in keeping with its medieval head, replacing the straight and symmetrical granite shaft made around 1915.

The Dartmoor Trust funded the replacement as part of its contribution to the anniversary, and the work was undertaken by the Dartmoor National Park Authority conservation works team.

The cross — on the road from Beatland Corner to Cadover Bridge — was recently re-erected in the presence of the Dartmoor Trust, Shaugh Prior Parish Council and cross enthusiasts.
