TAVISTOCK Cricket Club entertained the Tamar Cavaliers in the annual charity game featuring The Robin Fenner Memorial.
The match was named after the man who was such a great benefactor to sport and many other activities in Tavistock. It was played alongside the Times Cup in honour of Jack Davey's achievements as a professional cricketer with county cricket side Gloucestershire.
Tavistock batted in thick, drizzly rain losing Ferrol and Davies early on; Cleave and Nichols then steadied the ship putting on 40 runs. Josh Stephens batted well for his 26 as did Dom Scaglioni, for 18, before a big stand of 115 between Meredith and Shaun Daymond. Daymond's hit 77, a superb knock, and clearly the man of the match.
Cavaliers started well with 40 on the board in no time including some big hitting by South African Mutch, B Thomas took three wickets in a good spell of 3-26 before being replaced by Tavistock's veteran Stuart Munday who in a tight spell took 2-10, including a dropped catch.
Jamie Stephens bowled well his eight overs costing 31. James Nichols mopped up the tail with 2-12. So a comfortable victory for Tavistock on a Day that started badly for weather and finished dry and warm.
The club welcomed Sheila Fenner who presented her late husbands trophy, while John Hutchins from Times Sports Presented the Times Gazette Trophy.
