HANIELL Langton-Laybourn, a musician from Okehampton, has created an album inspired from his time living in the town.

The 23-year-old recently finished independently making an album called People Doing Things. He said that the inspiration for the songs and artwork came from his time living in Okehampton.

The artwork includes illustrations of Okehampton’s pubs, Simmons Park, Okehampton Castle and Castle Road — which is where he grew up and where his parents still live.

Haniell, who attended Okehampton College until 2012, said: ‘The illustrations are allusions to lyrics on the album, such as the mention of Castle Road in the song, Is Dancing and of Simmons Park and the pubs in the song Mono No Aware.’

Haniell studied music right through to the end of Year 13 and he played in several school concerts and performances.

He’s perfomed in Okehampton Battle of The Bands and also headlined with his band at Chagstock Festival.

In 2013 he moved to London to study music at King’s College London, where he graduated in 2016.

Now living in London, Haniell gigs frequently and works part-time as a performing musician, whilst writing and recording new music.
