A TOTAL of £400 was raised for the Dartmoor Pony Training Centre, after two supporters ?scoffed? almost 15 cream teas. The sponsored event was organised to help raise money to pay for the centre?s insurance. Although the supporters did not quite manage to eat all 15 cream teas they did manage to raise enough to enable the centre to pay most of its insurance. The centre at Moretonhampstead is the brainchild of Kathryn Hulland and Natalie Torr, who have been caring and training for the ponies for almost two years. Natalie said how grateful she was to the supporters who organised the cream tea event. She said: ?We are really grateful to them for this and they managed to raise a whopping £400 which has enable us to pay for most of our insurance. ?Because of the money they raised we were able to take out our insurance last week and have taken on our first volunteer. We have done some training with her and she is brilliant around the nervous ponies.? Natalie and Kathryn decided to set up the centre in 2005 so they could train and re-home ponies, offer advice, marketing and training, support to people wanting to sell their ponies privately, plus offering advice and information on suitable training methods for working with Dartmoor Hill ponies. The non-profitmaking voluntary organisation recently changed its name from Dartmoor Pony Rescue Centre, over concerns about using the word ?rescue?. For anyone interested in buying or training a Dartmoor Hill pony, an information and open day is being held next Sunday (September 30) in Widecombe-in-the-Moor. The day starts at 10am.
