A MOTHER, whose son raised £16,000 for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund by having his head shaved, aims to add more to the charity?s coffers by running a country fair. Mrs Susie Lascelles, will be holding the event at the Old Station House, Hatherleigh, on Saturday, July 16. Activities will include a clay pigeon shoot, archery, a display of gun dogs, ferret racing and an inter-pub tug of war. There will also be various stalls, a refreshment tent and a variety of activities for children. Mrs Lascelles? son Caspar who works for UBS in London, was sponsored by work colleagues for an initial minimum £5,000 to have his head shaved ? but the sum escalated to an impressive £16,000. ?It was raised largely due to a handful of very generous individuals and the kind matching scheme run by UBS where employees? contributions are matched by the company,? said Caspar. ?Exeter Leukaemia Fund has done so much to help so many people and I think the large amount of money raised was a reflection of people?s willingness to acknowledge this.? Leukaemia continues to grow more quickly in the South West than anywhere else in the country. To maintain their support for sufferers and to develop new services, such as outreach nursing for patients, ELF must raise some £425,000 each year.
