Chard 1

Tavistock Mens 1sts 3

TAVISTOCK travelled into the depths of Somerset on the hunt for a win last weekend.

Skipper Marchant set out the plan from the start, giving the forwards, Jourdan and Cowen, the scent of goals in their nostrils.

Jourdan showed pep in his game from the start, following a passage of controlled play from the ever present sweeper Dale Wood, a breakaway developed using the Stanbury duo, Dom and Sam, working the ball to Jourdan who swept into the D sending the Chad keeper on a merry dance and opening his account.

Chard showed little imagination in their game, using the long ball which became all too predictable to defensive line of Carr, Edwards and George. However, as the watery afternoon sun wilted, making vision tricky, uncharacteristic errors from Edwards and the rarely troubled keeper Mingo allowed Chard some hope value as they equalled the score line going into half time.

New face to the team Marcus Woods, subbed on for workhorse Unwin, showed his intent and potential. linking well with Marchant, Stanbury D and Cowen.

The deserved breakthrough for Tavistock came midway into the second half after Chard had absorbed several waves from the Tavistock firing squad. Using a long ball from Chard Edwards enabled Cowen to open his legs and attack the D as a solo effort with a cool finish.

A succession a short corners left Edwards the pleasure of putting the game out of Chard's reach with a full power play from the top of the D. The result set the tone for the team and club as they set off to celebrate with their Christmas meal at the Trout n Tipple.

Man of the match Dale Wood for his goal line save.
