PLANS to create much needed car parking spaces in Tavistock are now in full swing.
The project to create a car park on unmade land owned by Tavistock Town Council in Pixon Lane was given the go-ahead by members of the properties committee earlier this year.
Now consultations are underway with businesses which will be affected by the car park being sent the proposed plans.
Provided responses prove favourable, work can begin on the project.
The car park, with appropriate street lighting, will see 107 car parking spaces made available, with four disabled spaces.
The final amount of spaces for the car park is lower than originally planned, due to the loss of 19 spaces on what is presently a rectangular grassy area of land — this will remain leased to Tavistock Scouts. The scout group wanted to keep the area as they use it for tent pitching and cooking.
The redevelopment of the unmade land will also see a two storey works depot, which will be used by Tavistock Town Council's work staff, and two single storey industrial units, which will be leased out by the council.
