DESPITE the closure of Tavistock and District Conservation Project (TDCP), opportunities for people to get involved in conservation activities are still available. With support from TDCP trustees the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV) has now begun the Tamar Valley Project to provide local people with opportunities to have a positive impact and experience in their own environment through volunteer activities. BTCV is an international volunteering organisation bridging the gap between global environmental ideals and local reality in the UK and overseas. It aims to create a more sustainable environment by ?inspiring people and improving places?. Tamar Valley project officer Chris Avent said the project aims to build a number of volunteer teams within the Tamar Valley area, improving the environment and accessibility of rural landscapes for all. ?We want to continue to provide the opportunity for people to appreciate and be involved in their natural environment,? said Mr Avent. The events BTCV will be running will continue the work of TDCP. These include woodland management, fence building and pond clearance. At present BTCV plan to begin running activities by the end of May.
