Milton Combe and music club ‘Folk on the Moor’ teamed up to present ‘Folk for Ukraine’ at Milton Combe Village Hall on Saturday, April 9.

This was an enjoyable evening of live music, food, including some home cooked Ukrainian dishes, and fun which raised almost £1,300.

All artists gave their time and talents for free. Food and drink was also donated and there was a raffle supported by the generosity of local businesses.

In particular, thanks were expressed to The Who’d Have Thought It pub in Milton Combe for providing free beer and a generous first prize and to the folk club, which funded many of the other prizes.

Monies from this evening will all go to help Ukraine and help cover the costs of local drivers, who are taking large amounts of equipment to the country via the Callington-based Sending Love to Ukraine charity.

Frontline and emergency surgical supplies have been donated by various medical organisations in Plymouth.

A spokesperson for the event said: ‘While the situation in Ukraine is so appalling, this horror has brought out the best in West Devon generosity; communities coming together and having great entertainment to support critical local aid to Ukraine.

‘Ukraine we are with you.’
