PERFORMERS are busy rehearsing for an upcoming community production about the First World War, which will take place next month.

The Callington community production 'And Some Came Home', made possible by grants from the Heritage Lottery Fund and FEAST and supported by Callington Town Council, tells the story of the war through the words of those who took part in it.

A large cast of local people will re-enact major events to which songs of the period have been added. Students from Callington Community College have been researching the war and have provided their own dramatic scenes for inclusion, which they will be performing.

Singing workshops were held in Callington Town Hall throughout September, continuing through October and November, giving many singers the opportunity to learn the songs prior to them forming the chorus for the production and the audience will also be invited to sing along.

A free exhibition of research work carried out by the college students and others, as well as the exhibition 'Road to Peace' compiled by Tavistock Peace Action Group, will be on display in an empty shop in Fore Street, Callington for most of November. It will also be displayed at the college on the days of the performances.

'And Some Came Home' will be performed in the main hall of Callington Community College on Friday and Saturday evenings, November 21 and 22. The evening performances start at 7.30pm and there will be a matinee performance on Saturday at 2.30pm.

For the afternoon performance transport can be offered, via the Tamar Valley Community Bus, to a limited number of senior citizens or persons with a disability living within Callington, who would like to attend but cannot make their own way. Prior booking is essential on 01579 350336.

Tickets for the performances are £5 (£3 for under 16s, under three's free), and are available from Kivell's Estate Agents, Noakes, Habermehl and Kerr opticians on Fore Street, Callington and Callington Town Hall. Alternatively contact Shirley Morse on 01579 350336.
