RECENT events in the village have included St Andrew’s Patronal Festival on Sunday, November 29, the Christmas Bazaar in the Church Rooms on Saturday, December 5, Carols at the Inn, in aid of Children’s Hospice South West, on December 8 and a Light up a Life carol service, also in support of Children’s Hospice South West on December 9.
THE?baptism of Eliza Florence Lily Clatworthy Edwards, daughter of Jonathan and Charlotte of The Square, Sampford Courtenay, took place on Sunday, December 6.
Godparents were Mary Greener, Emma Tallack, Claire Carnell, Duncan Coventry, and James Rutherford. At the same time a Christingle service took place, with over 40 Christingles distributed. The collection was for the Children’s Society.
ENJOY a night of Rock and Roll at Sampford Courtenay Village Hall tomorrow, Friday, December 18 at 7.30pm when rhythm and blues band All or Nothing will be performing. Contact 01837 851659 for more information.
St Andrew’s Candlelit Carol Service will be on Sunday, December 20 at 6.30pm. It will be led by the Rev Nick Weldon with the choir under the direction of Roger Cleverdon.
Carol singing round the village takes place on Monday, December 21, meeting at the bus shelter at 7.00pm.
There will be a service of Holy Communion on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25, at 9.30am. The only service in the Benefice on Sunday, December 27, will be Parish Communion at St Andrew’s church at 11.00am.
Plough Sunday will be celebrated at St Andrew’s on Sunday, January 10 at 9.30am. Tractors are welcome in The Square and the service of Holy Communion will include the blessings of ploughs and seed.
