ORGANISATIONS in West Devon are being invited to attend a parliamentary debate in the borough.

The West Devon Community Planning Forum is holding its first annual parliament in September, to allow local organisations and people the chance to find out about its work and how they can get

involved.

The open parliamentary session will also be a platform for reports on progress in the past year, with displays, presentations and workshops, and key issues being voted on using hi-tech equipment, as seen on Who wants to be a Millionaire.

The forum, made up of representatives from more than 30 community, private, public and voluntary service providers, aims to work towards the production of a community plan for West Devon for publication early next year.

Represented parties include county, borough and parish councils, Dartmoor National Park Authority, police and primary care trusts.

John Dixon, West Devon borough council?s community planning policy officer, said: ?I hope the parliament will raise awareness of the West Devon Community Planning Forum, and maybe get more organisations on board.

?My hopes for the forum?s future are that it helps West Devon tackle more difficult

issues. We need to focus on sustainability, to make sure we are looking to the long term, and to tackle issues in West Devon like isolation.?

The parliament takes place at Okehampton?s Octagon Theatre on Saturday September 6, from about 9.30am until midday. For more information contact Sarah Thorne on 01822 813636.
