AFTER a lonesome week languishing in the Times' in-tray, a small lost duck has gone home — maybe.

The little yellow plastic fellow was found bobbing in the River Tavy at Shillamill. Adorned with race number 14 it was assumed he had taken a wrong turn during one of the frequent duck races in the region.

And so it turned out.

Gordon Spiers who recently ran a race at Bere Ferrers to raise money for the local kiddies' playground, popped into the office thinking he might recognise the little fellow.

'It could well be one of ours, but they all look so alike' he said, a trifle bewildered.

However, since there were no other claims, it seemed the kindest thing to allow No. 14 to rejoin the flock and get back into training.

l And there's even more good news — this time regarding the bedraggled bear found seated forlornly on a milk churn in Tavistock's pannier market.

The nameless chap was yearning for the cuddles of its pushchair-bound best friend for almost three weeks.

Then he was spotted by one-year-old Jack Easton's grandmother in John Downing's butchers' shop — and the pair were happily reunited.
