YOUNGSTERS from the Okehampton Wildlife Watch Group ? the junior branch of the Devon Wildlife Trust ? are inviting people in the area to join them for a tree planting event this weekend. On Saturday the enthusiastic youngsters will be planting some native tree species at Okehampton Primary School. It?s an opportunity for local people to get their hands dirty and improve the local environment, so come along for all or part of the afternoon.Planting will take place between 2pm and 4pm and all are welcome, both young and old. Jo Pullin, one of the Wildlife Watch leaders, said the Okehampton group had been running for about nine months. ?All the children involved have a real passion about wildlife. This event will allow the children to see some positive effects to the school nature area and the new trees will even help combat global warming. ?This event has been made possible by some funding from the EarthWatch Institute along with some expert advice about the types of trees to plant from South West Forests. ?It would be fantastic if people popped along during the afternoon to plant a tree. There will also be some children?s activities to join in with.? The group meet once a month in and around Okehampton, with a different wildlife theme each time. There are around 25 children who are members of the group. If you would like to know more about the tree planting event or if your children are interested in joining the Okehampton Wildlife Watch Group telephone Jo at the Wildlife Trust Office on 01392 279244.
