COMMUNITY arts charity Wren Music is launching a new weekly music-making workshop on Thursday mornings in Okehampton next week. The ?Make Music With Wren? sessions will be held at the Ockment Centre every week from 10.30am to 1pm and start on November 2. The sessions have been specially designed to appeal to people of all abilities and ages from 16 upwards. It is hoped the musical mornings will bring together people from all walks of life and backgrounds, including young parents, the unemployed, disabled and the retired. Wren will provide a wide variety of musical instruments, including guitars, basses, fiddles, concertinas, and drums ? no experience of playing an instrument is necessary. The group will start with tunes drawn from English traditional music, and the repertoire will be developed once the group has been established. The sessions are free of charge thanks to support from the European Social Fund Solid Foundations programme, the Arts Council England, and Devon County Council. They will be run by two of Wren?s multi-instrumental workshop leaders, David Faulkner and Paul Tucker. Bus fares will be refunded for people on income-related benefits living outside Okehampton and a free crèche will be available. Contact Wren Music in advance to book a creche place, or for further information telephone 01837 53754 or email admin@wren music.co.uk Since its establishment in 1983, Okehampton-based Wren Music has grown steadily. Now, more than 30,000 people of all ages, from the under fives to the retired, participate in the charity?s projects each year, all over Devon, and further afield.
