CAT owners from the Okehampton and Hatherleigh area will be strutting their stuff this weekend, to raise money for vital cat rescue and re-homing services.

Hatherleigh, Okehampton and District branch of Cats Protection are holding a ?cat walk? this Sunday (June 22), over a four mile route starting from Reddaways Yard in South Zeal at 11am.

?Cat walks have proved really popular in other areas of the country because they are fun and people enjoy a nice leisurely stroll in the good weather. They are also an excellent means of raising awareness of our work,? said Pat Sawyer, branch spokesperson. ?We are extending a warm invitation to people of all ages and fitness levels to come along and enjoy themselves. Walkers are welcome to bring their dogs along.?

The walk will be followed by a barbecue.

The Hatherleigh, Okehampton and District ?cat walk? is one of more than 75 similar events taking place around the country over the weekend.

?We are thrilled that our cat walks are proving so popular,? said Jen Snape, Cats Protection?s event co-ordinator. Mrs Snape said rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing cats and kittens cost a lot of money, so the Hatherleigh, Okehampton and district branch hoped lots of people will support the walk.

The Hatherleigh, Okehampton and District branch of Cats Protection finds loving homes for around 200 cats and kittens each year.

The branch is run entirely by volunteers and depends on the generosity of the public to continue running its vital services.
