Dart 2 Okehampton Columbines 4 COLUMBINES travelled down to Ivybridge for the first hockey match of the season. It was a good opening game with both teams fairly evenly matched. The difference in the two sides was Jo Moppett, who scored all four of Okehampton?s goals. Okehampton looked as though their fitness training had paid off as they were quicker to the ball than their opponents. Jo Stephens had a strong game as attacking centre half in the first half and was unlucky not to score when she pushed up to left wing in the second half, combining well with Moppett in attack. Abi Colton also played well, tackling strongly and pushing forward to create openings for the forwards. At half-time, Columbine went in with a 2-1 advantage, but Dart were more competitive in the second half. Carol Taylor had to make some important tackles at central defence to stop the Dart attack, with Sandy Corkill standing firm at left back. Sophie Whiteley made a number of saves before a well-struck shot crossed the line. Again, Okehampton relied on Jo Moppett to secure the win, which she did with two more excellent solo efforts. l This week Columbines are are at Exeter University for the Isca Dragons seven a side tournament.
