St Agnes 2

Okehampton Columbines 1

IT looked like Okehampton ladies? hockey team had the measure of their opponents early on. They were dominant, pressing forward and it was no surprise when they scored.

A ball was slipped through to Jo Moppett who found herself on her own with only the goalkeeper to beat. She made no mistake and fired the ball into the top corner of the net.

St Agnes looked deflated and Columbines still had the upper hand, although they were increasingly drawn towards the centre of the pitch, losing their shape and width.

Sharon Stephens had to make a few saves in goal but dealt with them comfortably.

The match turned when St Agnes scored a scrappy goal to draw level.

This fired up a physical St Agnes and Okehampton lost their grip. Netty Collett, on a welcome return to the side, battled in the middle and Elaine Morgan had a strong game at right back, but St Agnes got their second goal early in the second half.

Columbines will have to try and recapture their form when they play United Services at home this week.
