ONE MAN was hospitalised following a collision between a commercial van and an articulated lorry on the A30.

The incident occurred at around 7.30am on Monday on the A30 westbound between Drews Cottage and Sourton Cross.

Two fire appliances from Okehampton attended, along with another appliance from North Tawton and the specialist road rescue vehicle from Exmouth.

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman said a staff member commuting to Exeter was the first emergency worker on the scene, and was followed by the rapid response vehicle from Okehampton and a regular ambulance from Launceston.

Emergency workers found the van driver conscious but trapped by his legs, and fire crews released the casualty from the vehicle using hydraulic rescue equipment.

The van driver was taken to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, and an ambulance spokesman confirmed the casualty's injuries were not life threatening.
