TAVISTOCK College hosted a reception for educational and business representatives from all over the South West on Tuesday, in celebration of Europe Day.
The College was chosen as the venue by the organisers of the reception, the European Resource Centre for the South West.
Mary Wormington of the Resource Centre said: 'We are based in Gloucester and we very much wanted a venue based in the southern part of the region.
'Tavistock College has an excellent reputation as a language college and it really seemed the best choice.'
The European Resource Centre was established three years ago to provide schools and colleges throughout the region with information and resources on Europe.
Ms Wormington said the representatives learned about the latest developments and opportunities for teachers and students in international education.
She said practitioners from both the primary and secondary sectors were able to share experiences on running international projects, with details of all the latest materials available for schools being supplied by the Resource Centre.
Vice-principal Graham Stoate said being chosen as venue for the event showed the reputation of the College as a language centre was well known.
'We have also undertaken a lot of very successful European projects,' he said.
Europe Day celebrates the first move to what is now known as the European Union.
On May 9 1950, the French foreign minister Robert Schuman issued a declaration urging France, Germany and other European countries to pool together their coal and steel production with a view to encouraging closer integration and preventing further conflicts.
