THE ‘wobbly’-cobbled courtesy crossings in Tavistock, which have caused much concern over recent months, have now been repaired.
An urgent appeal was started earlier this year by the council, after several people sustained serious injuries on the uneven surfaces.
Devon County Councillor, Debo Sellis said: ‘There had been some remarks on social media about the time it had taken to repair the cobbles but if the councillors had attended the meeting they would have known when the repair was taking place.
‘The courtesy crossing has been maintained to ensure that it is structurally safe. We are also considering warning signs and road markings have been discussed, to warn drivers. A number of people have questioned how it will affect visually impaired people.’
Tavistock Mayor, Cllr Sue Bailey said: ‘I would say well done, it’s amazing what can be done.
‘I’m really pleased it’s been fixed and hopefully people won’t be falling over any more when crossing the road.
‘Unfortunately it has taken a while to be sorted out but I’m very pleased that it has now been done.’
