OKEHAMPTON Camera Club has gained recognition in a prestigious regional photographic competition.

Competing against other club teams from across the south west of England, Okehampton gained a highly commended award in the Kingswood Salver competition for its submission of a panel of five colour prints entitled 'Measuring the Passage of Time'.

Five Okehampton members each contributed a photograph to the panel reflecting times past.

The annual Kingswood Salver competition is organised by the Western Counties Photographic Federation. It draws entries from clubs, including Bristol, Dorchester and Launceston.

Carol Preston, who co-ordinated Okehampton's entry, said: 'Okehampton Camera Club is quite small compared to many with whom we were competing but I think we punched above our weight.

'Our team's success on the first attempt in this competition is encouraging. I hope we can repeat or better it in future years.'
