HATHERLEIGH resident Sandra Collier was last week presented with the Rotary Club's 'Good Citizen of the Year' award.

Club president Peter Roberts presented Sandra with the award at the recent meeting of the Rotary Club of Hatherleigh.

The award is made annually to a local resident the club believes has made a significant contribution to the community.

Sandra has been instrumental in the success of the club's annual fun day, working closely with Hatherleigh Cricket Club, and other residents, to provide Hatherleigh with a memorable event. She also spends a considerable amount of her time involved in other community projects within the town.

The meeting was held at the Torridge Inn, Black Torrington where Rotary District 1170 governor George Kempton and fellow Rotarian Herbert Malik were visitors.

The main theme of George's visit was to promote the forthcoming Rotary District conference, which this year is being held at Weston-Super-Mare in Somerset.

George also spoke about Rotary's commitment to eradicate Polio worldwide, and the $100,000,000 donation to Rotary International by Bill and Melinda Gates.
