The conclusion of the winter season's Westward league Cross-country saw unprecedented success for the Tavistock Athletic Club with 22 trophies being won by the club's athletes. The club capitalised on recent years' achievements to win trophies in every age group, against competition from all the major running clubs across the South West. There were many individual winners and significantly an equal number of team trophies that were won by the club. In the junior events the U13 girls set the standard with Claire Fraser winning the individual gold medal showing an impressive consistent high level of performance. With strong support from Sarah Hornby, Emma Champion and Annabel Longden, the Tavistock girls also took the team gold medal. The U13 boys also performed well with Seth McNamara-Waddington, Sam Lloyd, Dan Quick, Harry Eaton, Chris Argles, Ralph Lawson and Miles Eastaugh all contributing to jointly win the silver medal with East Cornwall Harriers. In the U15 girls event Rebecca Windemer maintained her consistent form to take the individual silver medal. The Tavistock U15 boys were again unbeatable with Nick Champion taking the individual bronze and with support from Sam Straughan, George Speak, Ben Brown and Sam Eaton also easily retaining the team gold trophy that the Tavistock boys won last year. There were further victories in the U17 age group with Sammy Fraser and Matt McNamara- Waddington both winning the indidual bronze medal in the ladies' and men's events respectively and the U17 men also winning the team silver trophy with Tom Lawson, Tom Gill, Matt McNamara-Waddington and Owen Drage all contributing valuable points. In the seniors events Heather Fell completed a great season of cross-country running, which served as good training for her modern pentathlon preparations for international competition. Heather took the individual gold medal in the senior ladies' event with Rebecca Deane winning the veteran 35 silver trophy and Sue Bratchley also winning silver in the ladies' veteran 40 category. The Tavistock senior ladies, supported with valuable points earned by U17 ladies Sammy Fraser and Laura Aspen, also won the silver trophy in the ladies team event. The Tavistock club also showed their strength in the senior men's event with Chris Champion winning the individual silver and Rupert Warren the bronze trophies in the veteran 40 category. Richard Drage won the veteran 45 category retaining the gold trophy he won last year and Robin Musgrave won the individual bronze trophy in the veteran 50 category. The senior men also claimed the silver trophy in the team event with the Tavistock veteran men winning the gold trophy in the overall veteran category. Tavistock runnners also celebrated the success of local runner Bob Chapman representing the Royal Navy who won the veteran 60 category. The final trophies awarded for the season also went to the Tavistock club with both the seniors and the juniors winning the respective team of the year awards.
