Liskeard 19 Tavistock 21 TAVISTOCK secured a fourth place finish in the Cornwall and Devon League when they overcame a stubborn, and at times, very physical Liskeard at Lux Park last Saturday. This league finish is very creditable as its their first season playing at this level. Praise must go to the efforts of coach Chris Greatrex for the way in which his team has performed. Tavistock started brightly and early in the first half released wing Tom Charlesworth on the left. His run almost caught the Liskeard defence napping and Tavistock were unlucky not to capitalise on the field position it created. Tavistock did open the scoring within the first quarter when scrum half Lee Greatrex made a break from the base of a maul and ran in a try from fully fifty metres. Fly half Josh Sutton converted to give Tavistock an early seven point advantage. Tavistock continued to dominate the scrums where the front row of Matt Martin, Steve Langdon and Rob Monk were particularly effective. But despite this domination Tavistock allowed Liskeard to slowly get back into the game. By half time they found themselves 13-7 down having conceded a try from centre Lester Hannah with Marcus Hill converting and adding two penalty goals. Tavistock got themselves back on level terms early in the second half via two long range penalty goals from fly half Josh Sutton. Liskeard then crept ahead again via a penalty from Hill only to see Sutton successful once more with a penalty to level things. In the final quarter Tavistock dominated ? and after exerting enormous pressure were able to claim their second try of the afternoon. The score came after Andrew Griffiths had picked up at the base of a five metre scrum and the pack then drove second row Darren Cole over for the try. Liskeard did get back into Tavistock territory but were only able to score from a further penalty goal to cut the Tavistock lead to two points at the end.
