THERE was a fun start to the mixed season at Yelverton Golf Club with the first of the two annual ladies versus veterans match — one in spring and one in the autumn.

The fun competition started in 2006 with the then ladies captain, Chris Longden and the men's vets' captain Tony Rushbrooke.

Teresa Holt (ladies captain) and Don Read (mens' veterans' captain) led the six teams in the match play competition — 12 men and 12 ladies playing in pairs, go head to head in a Stableford, better-ball competition.

The result was a three and a half to two and a half to the men.

The ladies played a 'three clubs and a putter competition to raise money for the ladies' captain charity, St Luke's Hospice. The winner was Kay Creaven on 36 points; 2, Marie Deeny on 33 and 3, Belinda McSherry on 31.
