THE impact of climate change in West Devon will be in the spotlight during a talk by Devon County Council's climate change officer this month. Ian Bateman, the first climate change officer in England, will talk about the predicted effects of global warming locally, and outline the science of climate change. His presentation 'Climate Change Essentials' will take place at the main hall of Tavistock College on Tuesday, November 21 at 7pm. The event has been organised by the Devon-based environmental charity Westden as part of its work with Defra's Climate Change Challenge Fund. Westden director, Anna Kennedy, said: 'This is a fantastic opportunity for people in West Devon to come and find out from the experts how climate change will affect us locally. 'Climate change is one of the biggest issues facing the world today, we need to understand the part we play in causing climate change and also how we can be part of the solution.' Entry to the event is free and members of the public are welcome.
