Jewson South Western

Tavistock 3

Truro City 0

FORMER City player Danny McTighe was chosen to lead the attack in place of Darren Halfyard and Kevin Russell was in the starting line up in place of Chris Gott.

Tavistock forced two corners at the start and from the second one McTighe's cross had Truro keeper Carveth missing the ball for it to go over the line before a defender could only help it on its way.

The visitors did not have a sniff at the Lambs' goal until 15 minutes into the game when James Miller went down the wing to cut in and square the ball for Steve Wherry to shoot from close range, but keeper Andy Meeds did well to dive low and stop a certain goal.

On the half-hour the Lambs increased their lead and what a peach of a goal it was. Carveth was in trouble fumbling a corner that was cleared off the line but it only went out as far as Mark Wall lurking on the edge of the area. He caught it first time and it never went more than a foot above ground to give the keeper no chance.

Truro came out for the second half in a determined fashion and the Lambs appeared to be all at sea. They weathered this early onslaught and were soon back on the attack, first Craig Hodge shot straight at the keeper and then Russell sent the ball back across goal that had Carveth clutching at the ball at the second attempt.

On the hour Gary Williams replaced Russell and he was soon in action twisting and turning in the area to send a shot just wide.

The Lambs were not going to be denied a third goal and it was man of the match Chris Kiely who broke down a Truro attack and came out of defence to release Williams on the edge of the area. He turned inside to send in a cross that Swiggs met with a diving header for his first league goal of the season and the best possible way to celebrate his 40th birthday.

It rounded off an excellent all-round display by the Lambs that will give them confidence for this Saturday's Devon Premier Cup tie with North Devon Premier side Shamwickshire.
