MAY I remind your readers that the ?Cards for Good Causes? multi-charity Christmas Card Shop is underway again this year from Wednesday October 18 to Saturday December 16 (Monday to Saturday10am to 4pm) at the United Reformed Church, Russell Street, Tavistock. Cards for Good Causes sells charity cards on behalf of most of the main UK charities, both national and local. The aim is simple ? to offer the widest possible choice of charity cards and to present the charities with as much money as possible from the sale of their cards. Last year the charities received over £5-million from Cards for Good Causes from their Christmas card sales, representing at least 81p in every pound. Obviously, it isn?t possible for every penny you pay to go to charity, because of the costs of administration, warehousing, distribution, shop space, etc. However, costs are kept to the minimum because of the many volunteers who give their time to run the shops and because of the many charitable, church and business organisations who help out with publicity. Last year, the Tavistock shop alone contributed well over £26k to the various charities, a national record for a town of our size. This was due to the efforts of over 200 volunteers who helped out in various ways, and further evidence of our area's reputation as a key provider of volunteers, money and resources to national and local charities. This year, further volunteers to cover gaps in the rota and sponsors to help with publicity would be welcome indeed. If you can help, please contact me at 01822 616560. Otherwise, please come along to buy your Christmas cards at our shop at the United Reformed Chuch, Russell Street. Look out for the red triangular Santa sign!
