THE Rotary Club of Okehampton held its Christmas coffee morning last Saturday.
Organised by Rotary Club events committee chairman Rob Harman and his team, the coffee morning is an annual event to raise funds for local good causes and charities.
The morning was busy almost from the start with a large number of people visiting for coffee and mince pies. Rotarians Sarah Watts, John Rattenbury and the kitchen team worked hard throughout the event serving refreshments.
Stalls sold freshly made cakes, books and second hand items. There was a raffle, organised by Rotarians Pat and Rod Collins, which featured a large number of excellent prizes.
The highlight of the morning was the performance of carols and Christmas songs by the choir of Okehampton Primary School. The choir was accompanied by their teacher Alison Armstrong on piano. Children also used bells to add a different dimension to the music.
Father Christmas paid an early visit to Okehampton to check on the children before sorting out their Christmas presents.
The Rotary Club expressed their thanks to primary school teacher Alison Armstrong for organising the choir to come along and perform and to the parents for giving up the time to bring their children along.
The morning raised over £640 for Rotary good causes, and a donation will be made to primary school funds in appreciation of the choir’s efforts.
