A SUPERMARKET football team certainly cannot be accused of ?being past its sell by date?, following its latest record breaking victory in Tavistock. Even though the odds were stacked against them, the Morrison?s team celebrated a win at Langsford Park over Tavistock AFC?s second team, who play in the East Cornwall Premier Division side. In an evenly balanced and exciting match Morrison?s were 4-1 down to Tavistock with 25 minutes to go but fought back to win 5-4, scoring the winner in the 90th minute. There were some excellent individual performances especially from hat-trick man Paul Cowling, Mark Gibbings, who scored two, and goalkeeper Craig Howells. Morrison?s are proud of their 14-game unbeaten record for supermarket sides in the South West ? not bad for a team who claim its only training sessions are in the pub! The team against Tavistock Seconds was: Craig Howells, Ian Collicott, Harri Hardy, Matt Dudley, Alex Christopher, Sam Sharland, James Aggiss, Charlie Roberts, Dave Byes, Paul Cowling and Eric Turner. Substitutes are Chris Macrae, Adam Bridgewater, Seb Krotke, Hayden Calder and Mark Gibbings. Team manager Simon Whitehead was delighted with his team, made up of players past and present from the Tavistock store. He said: ?We play in yellow and blue, so maybe the comeback was just like watching Brazil. We showed amazing team spirit and a battling spirit and a change in formation won us the game. ?We would like to thank Tavistock FC for allowing the game after poor weather and for an enjoyable and unforgettable night. The lads wish Tavistock Football Club every success in the forthcoming season.?
