A MECHANIC from Tavistock who lost his sister to cancer is hoping to cycle across Vietnam later this year, to raise money for cancer research. Ian Chappell, 51, is appealing for help to raise £3,000 to embark on the 700km cycle which takes place in November. The 13-day ride is being organised by the Macmillan cancer charity and will involve challenging terrain. Mr Chappell works for Plymouth City Bus and will be cycling with his manager Neil Borbon from Plymouth. He said his sister died from cancer and several other relatives of his family were fighting the disease. The £3,000 will help to fund the trip, with 64% of the money going straight to the charity. Any money raised on top of that will go to cancer research as well. Fundraising evenings are being held at the Market Inn in Tavistock starting with a darts evening on June 18. Anyone who wants to get involved or make a donation should call Ian on 01822 612529.
