A UNIQUE event is to be staged on Bedford Square in Tavistock this Saturday (October 3) for the first time.
Apple growers will be offered the prospect of turning their apple crop into apple juice from 10am to 2pm.
The Tavy and Tamar Apple Group of community volunteers will use their new apple crushing machine and mobile hydraulic press to make a traditional 'cheese' from which juice is extracted.
Growers have the opportunity to bring along clean, picked apples and, after witnessing the process, to take home some fresh juice.
Clean containers will be needed, but not milk cartons. A small donation is requested to pay for equipment maintenance.
Apples for cleaning must be clean and not be windfalls from orchards where there have been grazing animals in the last three months.
The Tavy and Tamar Apple Group is newly formed with the aim of providing an opportunity for apple and orchard owners to use their fruit. After turning it into juice, it can be frozen, pasteurised or turned into cider.
The group will also be organising the Bere Apple Fest on Saturday, October 10 at Bere Ferrers, together with course in pruning, grafting and other events.
