OKEHAMPTON'S Muay Thai boxer Christi Brereton has been awarded the title of female fighter of 2014 at the UK Muay Thai Awards.
The votes were cast from 41 different athletes down to three finalists and Christi was announced the winner on December 28.
With the judging panel containing the top officials in Muay Thai across Great Britain, the award capped off a fantastic year for Christi who goes by her ring name the 'Blonde Boom' Brereton.
Christi, who is also a mother of a two-year-old daughter, started off the year by defeating current British Champion Alexis Rufus and became the Number One ranked fighter in the UK at -55kg category.
She then travelled to Malaysia representing team GB and brought back the silver medal after defeating opposition from Turkey, Thailand, and the Philippines.
Christi travelled to California in the United States just two weeks later to compete against the World WBC Champion.
She fought valiantly but sadly lost out, however, she brushed herself off for a win against French number one Soraya Bucherie in October.
She also recently defended her British number one spot against Scottish sensation Helen 'Banshee' Wilson with a TKO win.
