ON behalf of the Princetown Dartmoor Challenge Group, may I thank everyone who helped with our fundraising evening in aid of Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood which took place on the evening of Saturday May 29 in the Prince of Wales, Princetown.

A special thanks is due to all of the local firms who provided prizes for the Grand Raffle, namely: Tesco?s of Plymouth; Jasmine Chinese Restaurant, Yelverton; Kountry Kit of Tavistock; Outdoor Experience of Ashburton; Lords of Princetown; Princetown Post Office; Princetown Brewery; Prince of Wales, Plume of Feathers, Railway Inn, Bottleneck Inn; Steve Jones Snack Foods; Moor Darts; Steele Designs, Virgin Trains; Great Western Trains; Dyson Vacuum Cleaners and Plymouth Argyle Football Club who provided complimentary tickets to their first home match in the first division.

Last but not least a big thank you to Tony Beard ?The Wag from Widecombe? who donated his services on the evening and presented the walkers with their certificates.

Including the sponsorship monies raised by the walkers who took part in the 33.5 mile 13th Dartmoor Challenge Walk and the proceeds from the grand raffle a wonderful £7,400 was raised, with the promise of more to come from some walkers who couldn?t attend on the night. Thank you everyone.

MAY I say a very big ?Thank You? to everyone who came along on Saturday June 12 to our car wash and cream tea event.

It is good to report that we raised in excess of £300 which will be going towards providing next year?s holiday for around 20 young people from Devon and Cornwall with Muscular Dystrophy.

This holiday has been running for about 35 years and costs have risen over the years to around £15,000 annually.

In particular, we would like to express our appreciation to Abbey Surgery (for the loan of their car park), the Methodist Church (for their hall and facilities), Tavistock Fire and Rescue (for the water supply), 1st Tavistock (Ospreys) Cubs and leaders (for car washers), Tavistock Guides (for serving teas), and Kevin Cooper Motor Factors (for discounting our supply of washing materials).

In addition, in May we held our annual house-to-house and flag day collection for Muscular Dystrophy Research.

These raised a collective total of £1387.24 ? a whopping response for which we are very grateful to our ever loyal collectors and those who donated so generously. Special thanks to Mrs Myrtle Salter who has organised this for many, many years now.
