WEST Devon resident Ed Orr has successfully completed his walk from Land's End to John O'Groats, raising money for Help for Heroes.
Ed, 25, runs with the Stannary House Hash Harriers and is a rifleman in the Territorial Army.
He has friends serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and decided to do the walk to raise money for the charity, which would benefit them should they be injured.
The 1,200 miles using footpaths for 90% of the time, including the South West coastpath, Offa's Dyke, the Pennine Way and West Highland Way, has so far raised £1,600, but Ed is still hoping to reach his £2,000 target.
The walk took six weeks, one day and eight hours and, apart from three nights in bed and breakfast accommodation because of necessity, Ed kept to a strict budget and wild camping.
He completed the walk unaided and carrying his rucksack and tent.
Ed, who comes from Crapstone, said the walk had been 'pretty tough' and it took his feet three weeks to get used to it — longer than he had hoped.
'I saw some of the most beautiful parts of the UK and brushed up on my geography at the same time.
'I was very lucky with the weather, but had a week of non-stop rain and snow in the Highlands,' he said.
