A NEW community room has been opened at the Winsford Centre at Halwill Junction, celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of the building's designer CFA Voysey. Thursday December 13 saw the dedication of the Voysey Drawing Room, which was one of the original wards in the former cottage hospital, and the inauguration of the CFA Voysey Society. Voysey was a prominent architect within the Arts and Crafts movement and a contemporary of William Morris and Lutyens. Winsford is one of the few buildings designed by the architect open to the public. The new room in the Grade II* listed building has been decorated in Voysey style, with wallpaper, curtains and furnishings, following the removal of all modern additions and the opening up of the fireplace. It will be multi-functional and suitable for meetings, receptions, day courses and also available for hire to outside organisations, bringing in revenue for the centre, which is run by the charity, the Winsford Trust. A Christmas dinner was also enjoyed by 70 guests, including Zig and Rose Gregorek from Anglers Paradise who donated £2,000 to the Winsford Centre, following a firework display which they organised. The couple also donated £1,160 towards new play equipment for children who use the village hall playing field.
