THE final services for the Centenary Celebrations for Fairplace Church in Okehampton took place on Sunday.

At the morning service led by the Rev Philip Wagstaff a ?time capsule? was buried in the church.

This contained items which reflected the church throughout its 100 year history including a copy of part of the Methodist Recorder for 1904 which gave a full account of the opening of Fairplace Church.

Also included was a copy of the current Methodist Recorder and newspapers including the Okehampton Times, together with other memorabilia representing the centenary year.

The evening service was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Okehampton Cllr and Mrs Tony and Sue Leech and was a Joint Christians Together service.

At the evening service Deputy Mayor Pastor Mike Davies paid tribute to the work and ministry of Rev Derek Hayward who will be leaving Okehampton in the summer to take up a pastorate in his native Wales.

There will be a service of thanksgiving for Derek?s ministry which will be held on Sunday August 14 at 3pm at the Baptist Church.
